Where Did You Find Your Dog?

We found Winston through a local couple who operate an Australian Shepherd rescue. They had Winston in foster care after he was found tied to a pick up truck in Lexington. Winston is a pure-bred Australian Shepherd — we have only a best guess of how old he is since he was abandoned.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

My husband went to see him in foster care and knew the moment he saw him. He had that look in his eyes. And Sammy, our other Australian Shepherd was being fostered at the same home — we had no intention of adopting two dogs — but Sammy (then an 8 week old puppy who was taking to a kill-shelter by a breeder who didn’t ”like the way he looked”) became best pals with Winston and we couldn’t bear to not take them both.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

Winston and Sammy are our children. Our son is grown and on his own, so they have taken his place as our kids — we schedule our work and personal lives around them so that we all have plenty of time together. Just knowing that they may not even be alive had we not taken them makes us truly grateful every day to have them in our lives.
