Where Did You Find Your Dog?

Mickey was a rescue from Miami Dade, he was found by a dumpster on a wet t-shirt, he had scabies & a upper respiratory infection as well as intestinal parasites. My boyfriend and I just moved to Florida from New Jersey and were living with his uncle. My boyfriend was 100% not ready for a dog. I just started a new job at a animal hospital. It was my fourth day of work when this super cute puppy walked in with his foster family. I fell in love with him the moment I laid eyes on this rambunctious pup! I went home and told my boyfriend all about how cute and sweet this puppy was and how happy I was that this foster family took him in. About two weeks went by and I could not stop thinking about this puppy! The foster family brought him back in for a recheck and I got to bond with him again. The foster mom mentioned that she will not be able to adopt him because he had too many issues and that she had to return him back to the lady who rescued him, being that some of his conditions were contagious to her kids. The lady who rescued Mickey was a client of ours, so I knew how to contact her. When I got home from work my boyfriend’s uncle was also just getting back from work, so I spoke with him about how he would feel if I brought home a dog. His exact words were, ”Mags, we are puppy proof! That would not be a problem!” That night, my boyfriend (Nick) and I went to go pick up Mickey. The moment Nick saw Mickeys’ silly happy face and he fell in love with him as well!

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

I never believed in love at first sight until I saw Mickey! That day when he came in with his foster family I knew he was the puppy for me. The bond he and I had that day was a bond I’ve never had with anyone else!

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

Mickey gives me a reason to smile everyday! Even if I’m having a bad day, when I come home Mickey greets me full of energy and he’s always smiling. Mickey recently had hip surgery (bi-lateral FHO) and I was there for the whole thing (except I was not able to spend the night with him). The next day when we went to pick him up he was so happy and excited to see us. It is impossible to bring this dog down, life seems to bring down the best of us but not this pup! He is the apple of my eye! He has brought so much happiness to my life! Mickey was also a BIG part of my engagement proposal! I said yes! Nick and I got engaged May 13, 2014.
