Where Did You Find Your Dog?

Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP) I have been a puppy foster (which also includes mothers with litters) for SAAP for several years . Marti came to my house after she found herself in a gas chamber – kill – shelter with her 8 puppies. PBC Co-Founder, Kristin, had seen a picture and heard the story of Marti and began networking her. Kristin knows my weakness for boxers so she knew just what she was doing when that picture of Marti and her suckling pups made it my way.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

We couldn’t get her out of that place fast enough. I couldn’t wait to get her and her gorgeous pups into a warm, safe environment. When they arrived they were all in pretty bad shape. This particular shelter is known for disease and the public is rarely allowed in. Marti and her pups were riddled with parasites of all kinds and Marti was extremely malnourished. So, the healing began. After ultimately losing three of the puppies, we got the rest of the family healthy and ready for adoption. The pups went like hotcakes. Next up was Marti. Her personality insists that she HAS to hug every single person she meets. I mean really hug. She takes her two front legs and wraps them around your neck tightly and hugs.  We already had several approved apps on her and it was time for me to let her go.  I had lost my old boxer mix girl a year prior and I really missed having the clown-like personality of a boxer in the house. Long story short….I couldn’t let her go. Foster Failure number two.

She has become an excellent foster sibling, too.  My next foster family came in with a less than attentive mom.  Sasha was small with 11 puppies and it was just too much for her to handle. So Marti jumped into the puppy pen and started picking up where Sasha dropped off.  She’s been good with every foster I’ve brought into the house.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

Marti is so light hearted and goofy. She makes me laugh daily. She reminds me to not sweat the small stuff. She has also taught me the lesson that to forgive is to forget. She doesn’t carry her past with her at all. She has dumped it…to be forgotten forever. I love that lesson.
