Where Did You Find Your Dog?
Stray Animal Adoption Program (SAAP) I was going through a tough time emotionally, my dog Roxie was getting up in years and so I thought it was a perfect time to start fostering. I contacted a local foster based rescue group and submitted my application. They immediately contacted me and said they had two dogs they were thinking of for me. Not knowing either of them I told them to bring whichever one they thought needed me the most.
Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.
They showed up at my door with a 10 week old chocolate lab puppy who had a broken jaw and needed a place to rest and heal for a few weeks before being available for adoption. I couldn’t believe my eyes! I’ve always been rescuing animals so I know you can find gems but even I was shocked by this dogs beauty. He was breathtaking. And so unbelievably well behaved for a pup. I never set out to get a puppy. Not wanting the hassle of training a pup, I honestly thought if I was going to adopt I would get an older dog…. But I couldn’t resist. I couldn’t let him go. He was perfect. He was so respectful of good ole’ Roxie and he brought so much joy to our little family. He opened up my social circles as people would stop dead in their tracks to meet him. He was mesmerizing. I fell completely in love and became a foster failure on my very first attempt.
How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?
Buster got me even more involved in rescue. He has helped me foster hundreds of puppies now – always providing them with rules and structure. I like to refer to my house as the Puppy Hostel and he is the cool guy that shows everyone the ropes. It was because of Buster and my continued involvement in rescue that gave me the idea for Project Blue Collar. He truly has changed my life and the life of many others as a result. He is the most balanced and kind dog. I am so fortunate to have him in my life
