Where Did You Find Your Dog?

I was an animal control officer responding to a call for a stray dog. While in the neighborhood I got to talking with a couple who told me they had a puppy pit bull they needed to get rid of. They brought Cuda out on a long piece of twine. They didn’t mention her unusual appearance and neither did I. I just started texting my husband. Every denial back he sent, I countered with a ”but you don’t understand” until he finally gave in.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

Cuda was so unusual and we had no idea what to expect that we were afraid to get attached to her. It wasn’t until I dropped her off a couple of weeks later when I picked her up from being spayed that I realized that she could have died on that table. This dog is that different….that’s when I know I would spend her entire life protecting her.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

Nothing is the same in my life since she arrived. She has brought me friends from all over the world. I have friends I’ve never met face to face that I’m closer to than ones I see daily because of her. She makes me feel like a hero. People thank me for saving her but it’s the other way around. She gives me a reason and a purpose. She shows me what it’s like to just live and let live. She drove me to educate myself about inbreeding, backyard breeding and to share that information. When people email me pictures of their dogs or post comments on her page, I enjoy the interaction. I read every comment people write on all of her social media. I only wish people could see that she’s not in pain before they post about it.
