As a part of our commitment to giving back to rescue groups, we select two organizations every month to be the recipient of our Buy One Give One (BOGO) program. Our BOGO program is based on online sales from two of our leash and collar collections (I Am A Rescue or Support The Underdog). For every collar/leash purchased from these collections, one is donated to a rescue group. We are thrilled to announce that Hart County Animal Rescue is our BOGO recipient from May 15th - 31st. They are very small but mighty group and we are excited to introduce them to our followers.
What is involved in keeping your rescue going? (How many adoptable dogs are in your program? Where do your dogs come from?)
We have a kennel which we use to house some of our dogs. We don't have the manpower to be open to the public for visiting or "choosing" an animal. Our president typically fosters around 20 dogs, many are at our kennel and a few are in foster homes, when we have a foster available. It is difficult to secure fosters. We are very thankful for the few that we do have. Our wonderful volunteers care for our kennel dogs twice a day. Without our president, Judy Partain, being so dedicated we would not be able to save nearly as many lives.
What are some of the things your group is known for?
We often take on the more challenging cases. Many of our dogs are victims of neglect or abuse. We also have a family assistance program to those going through financial hardships by providing food or emergency vet bill assistance. We are here for the animals in the greatest need.
Describe some of the more challenging moments in rescue and how you/the other volunteers got through it.
Recently, we have had some challenging cases. We had a dog that was nearly starved to death. Her transformation was amazing & her owner was prosecuted. Then, we were called to help with a hoarding situation in which the animals had been abandoned in a mobile home park. A total of 22 animals were rescued. 16 cats were inside the home. The conditions were some of the worst we had seen. We all try to see the goal in front of us and just complete the task at hand; one step at a time. By focusing on the end result & goal it helps us avoid getting brought down by the current state of the animals.
What is the most rewarding part about fostering? What would you say to others who
are considering fostering for a group like yours?
Fostering is so fun! It's like having a cool new dog every couple of months. It is so neat to see how the personality of the animal changes as they realize that they are loved and safe. What could be more rewarding than saving a life?
We are a tiny group of only 9 volunteers, yet we managed to save 413 lives last year. This could not be done without donations, fosters or grants. We are beyond thankful for every single dollar, foster or item that we are given.
