Where Did You Find Your Dog?

Merlin was rescued by Eskie Rescuers United. They flew him from California to Colorado where he was placed into foster care at a dog daycare center called City Bark. I had been working there at the time so it was inevitable that we met.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

Merlin chose me, first and foremost. At the time, I hadn’t really been looking for another dog but the way he followed me and reached for me whenever we were separated by fences, the way he’d cry any time I left his sight – I knew it was only a matter of time. I knew I needed to adopt him.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

From very early on I knew he was special. As soon as he knew that he wasn’t going to be left behind ever again, he really began to come into his own. Merlin changed from being shy and very insecure to being a happy, confident and endlessly loving dog. In early March of 2013, Merlin became a Pets on Wheels therapy dog for the Western Maryland area and has become quite the celebrity at Emeritus in Hagerstown. Merlin has yet to meet a stranger. In fact, his positive and outgoing attitude has really been quite inspirational. Seeing the joy and smiles he brings to all the people he visits is absolutely amazing; a feeling so out of this world it’s difficult to describe. It is hard to imagine, sometimes, that he’s only just getting started but Merlin and I are certainly looking forward to many more years of helping to ’lick loneliness’.
