Where Did You Find Your Dog?

I was moving out of my parents house to an acreage by myself- decided I would like a friend to be there with me. I went to a Rescue Kennel just outside of Red Deer in hopes of finding the perfect fur-baby. I walked through the kennels and said hi to a few when I heard this HORRIBLE noise come from another room. I jumped back and said ”WOW! What was that noise!” the lady working told me it was the Pitbill that was brought in a couple months ago. He has nightmares and howls a lot. I asked her if I could see him and she replied with ”of course!”. As we were walking to the other room I asked why he wasn’t with the rest of the dogs and she said well…he is just more comfortable over on this side. I walked in the room and here was Gus (at that time his name was Klash) passed out on the floor dreaming and howling and there were 5 little kittens sleeping and playing on him. They were using his side as a trampoline and play fighting with eachother. The lady called his name and he woke up and that’s when the fun started! This handsome hyper guy jumped out of his skin at the site of me. The lady told me his sad story and it broke my heart. He was surrendered because at 5 months old he wasn’t mean enough to protect the old owners home. Their house got broken into and he didn’t do anything about and it because of that he was surrendered. He was never given toys or any affection what so ever. He ate food off the floor of his kennel and didn’t know what a hand running down his back meant. Affection was not something he knew of. He was merely a security system for them not a family member.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

When I walked into the back room it was love at first sight. I knew he had a gentle nature to be in the ”cat room”. When he greeted me…that was the moment I knew. He was so happy and hyper and just wanted to crawl into my pocket and go home with me. I got a million kisses and a bunch of snuggles. Such a happy and loving dog! To be treated the way he was by his old owners and to still have faith in people showed me he was the perfect fit for me. I knew he was going to teach me a lot about life and people. If he could still be as wonderful as he is after being treated that way by his old owners. Why couldn’t I move on in my world too!

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

Gus came into my world shortly after my Grandma passed away. From the day I brought him home he became my diary and my best friend. I knew that I could always depend on him to make me smile and laugh because of his hilarious personality. He has brought a new outlook on life to my world and I thank my lucky stars every day that I met him. I couldn’t ask for a better friend and if it weren’t for him I don’t know where I’d be. He has gotten me through some dark days for sure. He definitely rescued me.
