- : Grits have taught me the meaning of empathy, compassion, and unconditional love. He has made me a better person
- : I have been training deaf dogs for around 10 years. I met Grits while I was volunteering my training services with the New Leash on Life program at a local prison. I helped the inmates learn how to train deaf dogs. The program is the best thing that I have ever been involved in. It taught me so much and brought Grits and me together. After the program Grits was not adopted, so we fostered him. I realized quickly that not many people would want a deaf, vision impaired dog who also has anxiety, so I decided to adopt him. His anxiety has gotten much better, and he's a happy and healthy dog. My only regret is not knowing about him sooner so that I could have adopted him before his anxiety got the point that it did. We use Grits' Instagram to raise awareness for special needs dogs and rescue dogs in general, and we do try to help dispel stereotypes about people who are incarcerated. Instagram.com/deaf_dog_grits
