Where Did You Find Your Dog?
I found Barney at Animal Rescue, Inc. He was my first rescue dog, and also the beagle that made me love beagles. He’s 15 now. Knowing he wouldn’t be around forever, I got involved with Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland and fostered Ruthie. She was heartworm positive and had to go through treatment before I could officially adopt her. Once she was adopted, I was fostering another beagle through BRSM and went to an adoption event with my foster. There I met Jack, the cutest beagle-bassett mix ever! I adopted him on the spot. So, I am a huge foster failure, but a great beagle mom!
Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.
The person who was showing me dogs at Animal Rescue said she thought Barney would be a good ”starter” dog. He was sleeping on the floor in between two other, larger beagles and was none too anxious to be looked over by a potential adopter. Believe it or not, I noticed that his ears (which are now mostly gray) were the same red color as my hair, so I decided he was my soulmate. As unreal as that may be, it turned out to be right. Ruthie I saw on BRSM’s Facebook page and fell in love instantly. And Jack, as I said above, I saw at an adoption event and fell in love instantly.
How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?
Barney always greeted me when I came home by howling as soon as he heard my car pull up. Now, with three of them, it’s a virtual howl-fest every night. They are so funny together and such great company for me. They are the kids I never had.
