Where Did You Find Your Dog?
We found Amii online through Petfinder, she had been rescued through the Evergreen Animal Protection League here in Colorado.
Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.
I had been looking for a black female Pomeranian for my husband who had been wanting one. The moment she came in the door and got on the floor with us, we knew she would never leave. She was on "trial" with us for ten days in case we decided she wasn't getting along with our other dog, but they got along famously from the very beginning.
How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?
I never had a daughter and Amii loves to dress up, so we have a lot of fun with that. But I think what has really been special is to see her change into what I call a "real" dog. She has never liked to play with toys or play fetch or tug and I never understood it until we started volunteering with NMDR. Amii was owned by a breeder who became somewhat of a hoarder. She spent the entire first year of her life in a kennel. Now that I understand that puppy mill dogs do not know how to play, I know why Amii didn't know how to. The picture I am including is not the best picture of Amii, because she is beautiful, but it is my favorite, because it is from the first day she went to the doggy toy box and pulled out a toy by herself and began to play with it. Amii's gotcha day is Oct 19, 2010 and this picture was taken Sep 21, 2012. It has taken her almost 2 years of non-stop love, attention and care but she is becoming a "real" dog. She has shown me the plight of mill dogs everywhere. She has opened our eyes.
