Where Did You Find Your Dog?
We found Emma through the wonderful Central Kentucky Boxer Rescue. They saved her from a puppy mill, where she had been bred for a few years as one of the mama dogs - they think she had 2 or 3 litters. She had been locked in a basement with a dozen or so other boxers. The owner would open the basement door and throw food down on the floor and the dogs would maul for it. The police busted the mill in July 2011 and CKBR took all the mill dogs into foster care. We adopted Emma in January 2012.
Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.
There was a lot going on in our personal lives when we adopted Emma in January. Emma showed up, and she was a little broken too - we knew she was meant to be in our family. We helped fix each other. I like to say that although she is a rescue pup, we're pretty sure she rescued us!
How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?
Emma is an integral member of our family. She is almost always with us - she goes to work with her Dad everyday and is an excellent office pup (given her sleepy demeanor). We frequent all the dog friendly spots around town, including the dog parks (Otto Armleder and Washington Park are her favorites), restaurants, (Cock & Bull, Indigo, Bowtie Cafe, Newport Pizza Co.) and bars (Neon's). When she came to us, she didn't know how to play with toys or snuggle. Now, she looks forward to the early morning when she gets to sleep in the human bed between the snooze button alarms and her favorite toy is a stuffed hedgehog. Our family wouldn't be the same without her.
