Where Did You Find Your Dog?

Stella was one of the very first pit bulls adopted out of our shelter, they had just lifted the mandatory euthanization just months before. She was only about 6 weeks old, another accidental litter of pups dumped that the owner couldn't care for.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

I picked her out and had to fill out the additional paperwork required for a pit bull adoption, as well as a home check. Taking home this little 5lb puppy was exciting, but realizing the seriousness of owning a dog, much less a pit bull really sunk in and I had no idea what I was getting into. I don't advise anyone adopting any type of dog before doing your research to make sure that dog is the perfect fit. We knew we wanted a pit bull, but didn't realize the great responsibility that comes with owning one. I went home and spent days and months reading about training, learning about the breed and BSL, food aggression, dog park worries, etc. It was a lot of work and put a lot of strain on me and my then fiance's relationship. He didn't understand WHY I was so adamant about training her, walking her, spending every moment with her, keeping her inside. We had a huge fight and I was finally able to get it through his head that this dog is NOT just a dog! Now he says he is so incredibly proud of me for sticking with it and making Stella the perfect companion she is.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

She goes with us everywhere, we schedule our life around her to make sure she has it all. She will never feel hungry or pain, she will never sleep outside a day in her life, and I will fight for this breed as long as I live. Thank you PBC, for featuring Stella. Our lives are enriched by this girl, our first dog. There are so many pit bulls being killed in shelters (only her and one other of her litter survived). Any chance we get to tell people we ADOPTED Stella, makes a difference.
