Where Did You Find Your Dog?

I was pulling into my colleges parking lot, when I came inches from hitting what looked like a pit bull mix. No one was trying to catch him, because the city I live in is notorious for dog fighting, but I had just lost my childhood dog and took it as a sign, I knew I had to try. I parked my car and got out, he understandably ran from me, but I opened the car door, and sat on the ground. He slowly inched his way over to me, and I realized he had about a two inch long, inch deep gash on his forehead, I got him in the car and went to my vet. (By the way I missed my classes for the day, but my professors excused me when they found out why) When I got to the vet, I told them I thought he had been hit by a car, however they could tell from the wounds all around his face, and the gash, that he had been abused and more than likely used as a bait dog. I broke down in tears at the thought of what that dog must have gone through. They told me the surgery was going to take basically all day, so I was sent home. Later however, I got a call saying that he had a seizure while awaiting surgery, and that I would have to pay another 300 dollars to have him sent to a 24/7 clinic. They asked me if I could do it, or if I wanted them to put him down, I tearfully said I could not afford it, and he would need to be put down. Luckily at that point, the vet had fallen in love with him, and said he would take him to his home and watch him all night. The surgery was touch and go, we still didn’t know if he’d recover, but the next day they called me and told me I could pick him up. The vet bill was insane, but I used my emergency money for him. The vet also told me that he had been hit so hard in the head that it caused a bunch of little cracks in his skull, so we think he’s got a little brain damage, but I wouldn’t want him any other way

While I was waiting for the vet to check him, I got down on the floor with him and wrapped my arms around him, being careful of his injuries. I told him ”someone treated you really bad huh? Well I promise if you pull through I will treat you like a king.” His tail went crazy, and he put his head on my shoulder like he was giving me a hug back.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

He has amazed me, with the fact that he went through something so terrible, yet he is one of the most loving dogs I have ever met.
