Where Did You Find Your Dog?

The Great Dog Rescue New England/ Pet Matchmaker Rescue adoption headquarters in MA.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

I actually did not know Maggie existed until the day I made the trip to the adoption headquarters in MA. I had planned on adopting an adolescent dog but due to some behavior issues, I had to make the difficult decision to say no. Maggie was a 4 month old puppy when I first met her and as soon as the adoption coordinator placed her in my lap, she stole my heart. Maggie seemed to know I was upset and she immediately began licking away my tears, making me smile. Her little tail never stopped wagging and she was just such a happy spirit. I spent time getting to know this little being and totally fell in love with her. She just loved everyone and everything and life was so exciting. At the time, Maggie was actually not totally up for adoption because she had a couple interested in her. I decided to wait to see if they were taking her or not, telling myself not to fall in love because how could someone not want this puppy? When the people showed up and took her outside to make their decision, I felt my heart break all over again. It was like time stopped and it felt like forever before the adoption coordinator went out to see what they had decided. When she re-entered the building, carrying Maggie in her arms, I knew Maggie was coming home with me :). They had decided Maggie was not what they were looking for. When Maggie was handed to me the second time, we looked right in each other's eyes and the connection was instant. I am so thankful I waited at the adoption headquarters that day. Maggie is my best friend. Sometimes you just know that you are meant to be together. That is how it was with Maggie.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

I have never been the most outgoing or most confident person. Without my dogs I am still very shy in certain situations. However, with Maggie I have accomplished things that I never thought possible. She has given me the confidence to hike mountains and trails I had only dreamed about. Both dogs have accompanied me on my first ever solo camping trips. With Maggie at my side I feel like I can do anything. Even on those days when I find myself doubting my self worth, Maggie is there to lift my spirits. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious and just a short outing in the woods with her and Oliver is enough to make even the worst days better. She is my confidence, my adventure loving hiking companion, my comedian on those darker days, my best friend, and most importantly, my heart.
