Mack the Bug

by Carole Feeny |

In celebration of Foster Dog Friday, we’re sharing the story of Mack, and adoptable dog in the Cincinnati area. This post was written by his dedicated and kind-hearted foster mom, Becky Gardner.

Mack is a 4 yr. old, “Bug” mix (English Bulldog/Pug). He was found as a stray, blind, full of fleas, and trying to heal from wounds caused by another dog that had grabbed the back of his neck. Although his owners did try to reclaim him, they faced two options: costly medical treatment or relinquishing ownership. Luckily for Mack, he was surrendered to animal control where he found rescue with Kentuckiana Pug Rescue (KPR). After a medical evaluation, it was determined that Mack needed to have both eyes removed in order for him to have a pain-free and healthy future. It was also discovered that Mack had been shot and was heartworm positive. Mack received the necessary surgery to remove both eyes, was neutered, and started heartworm treatment.

From the moment that Mack arrived in our home he has been happy, relaxed, eager to learn, and LOVES being part of a family. He loves his foster dog brothers and sisters, and just wants to be a part of the pack. He has done AMAZINGLY well with “mapping” our home and gets around with little to no assistance. We have developed a routine to help Mack learn key words that help him with everyday life. Currently we are clicker training him which is going very well. He is a HUGE snuggle bunny, and after some one on one playtime, he will settle in for a nap in a lap.

Mack is house trained, crate trained, UTD on all vaccines, neutered and micro chipped. Mack’s new forever home will have the support of his foster mom to help make the transition to his new forever home. Mack is available through Kentuckiana Pug Rescue.
