Where Did You Find Your Dog?

German Shorthair Pointer Rescue of New Jersey (GSPRNJ) Eve was used for breeding. Her owner dropped her off at the shelter when she was 8 however our vet believes that there was no way she was 8 more like 10, or possibly her life was so difficult her body aged prematurely. She has probably had 100 puppies or so in her lifetime. She had never had a soft surface to lie on. Her hips had atrophy from never being used. Her coat was scratchy and rust colored both from sunlight and poor diet. She was 10 pounds underweight when she cam home and all her teeth are broken, most likely from chewing on her cage to get out.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

Eve is afraid of men though she is becoming more brave every day with the people she trusts. Eve can not sit, her body is so not accustomed to sitting upright that she will only attempt it on the couch with a cushion to lean on. It took Eve a year to feel comfortable in our home. One day she decided to sleep with us on our bed and from that day forward she became part of our pack on her terms.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

She is my best pal, my confidant and loyal friend, she trusts me and for that I am grateful. To have a dog trust again after the lifetime of abuse highlights the true virtue of a dog. These days when not lounging in the sun, Eve can be found hanging with her fellow rescue pals, helping to educate people on the atrocities of puppy mills and rewards of rescue.
