Where Did You Find Your Dog?

I got Cheyanne from the Animal Adoption Foundation, a no-kill animal shelter in Hamilton, Ohio. She was surrendered to AAF because her previous owner’s ex-boyfriend locked her in a basement for weeks before the ex-girlfriend found her. Unfortunately, she couldn’t keep Cheyanne.

Tell Us About the Moment When You Knew that You Two Were Meant for Each Other.

Cheyanne came into my life as a scared, untrusting, homeless shelter dog. She was shutting down in the shelter environment, so my family and I took her home to foster. She settled in nicely with us, and our 3 cats. In my 18 years of life, my parents never allowed us to get a dog. They said they’re too much work and we aren’t home enough. Well, Cheyanne stayed with us for months, with no interest from potential adopters. She is dog-reactive, so couldn’t go to a home with other dogs, which is a challenge for most people. I would drop little hints at my parents about how much everyone loved her, how perfect she was, and how much she loved us. They continued to say no, we don’t need a dog. On June 20, 2014, I got the surprise of my life. I went to feed Cheyanne, and in her food container, there was an envelope. I opened it, and it said, ”Congratulations on your new dog!” I started crying because I never thought this day would come. Cheyanne was finally mine.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

Cheyanne is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. She is my soul dog. There aren’t enough words to describe how undeniably happy she makes me. Cheyanne is my best friend, my sanity, my joy, my better half. I’ve been blessed by the perfect dog.
