I wanted to get a companion dog for Ruby, and I wanted one that was as quiet as her. I chose to work with Adore-A-Bull rescue in Cincinnati. After a home visit from a volunteer, she said that she had the perfect dog for me…Bruce! I trusted the matching process and agreed to go see him at an adoption event. True enough, he was the quietest dog there and was very sweet. I fell in love! A few weeks later he was in my backyard, meeting Ruby. They sniffed each other, wagged their tails, and then walked away from each other. Perfect! I didn’t want two rambunctious dogs; I wanted compatible dogs, and Ruby is very quiet and submissive. They are perfect for each other, and perfect for me.

How Has Your Hero Changed Your Life?

Bruce is quite intimidating at first glance. With his HUGE head, cropped ears, barrel chest, and matching coat and eyes, he makes most people take a step aside. When I walk him, very often people will see him and cross the street so as not to walk near him. One woman even pushed a stroller out into traffic just to avoid us! Friends and family alike have admitted that they were scared of him upon seeing pictures or first meeting him. But once he warms up to you (yes, he does bark at strangers or people he doesn’t know – as most dogs do!) he is known to crawl in your lap and wait for you to pet his head. He really is a very sensitive and sweet dog, as well as quite goofy! He has changed my life by completing my ”pack” and making me laugh everyday!
