BOGO Spotlight: Humane Society of Saline County
As a part of our commitment to giving back to rescue groups, we select two organizations every month to be the recipient of our Buy One Give One (BOGO) program. Our BOGO program is based on online sales from our leash and collar collections For every collar/leash purchased, one is donated to a rescue group.
We are excited to announce that Humane Society of Saline County in Arkansas, is our BOGO recipient from February 15th-28th, 2017.
What is involved in keeping a shelter-based rescue going? (How many adoptable dogs are in your program? Where do your dogs come from?)
The most rewarding part of helping the animals is seeing the love in their eyes. Strays, injured or abandoned animals are so appreciative when you help them. We try to put ourselves in their place, how would you feel if you were dumped on the side of the road and had no where to go and knew know one? Obviously you would love for someone to stop and help you and probably even bond with this person. Well, this is often what happens with us. Many times it is very hard to adopt out animals that you have built up a trusted friendship with. We worry about them when they leave. Needless to say, several of the volunteers and staff often fall in love and can’t let some of them go. Pretty much everyone that volunteers or works at our shelter ends up adopting an animal. These little darlings have a way of making you love them so much you just can’t let them go to feel they have been abandoned again.
What are some of the things your group is known for?
We have helped several out of state groups during natural disasters.
Our shelter hosts low cost spay/neuter clinics to help cut down on pet over population problems. We normally help between 4,000 and 5,000 pets get fixed annually. We also host low cost shot clinic& heartworm test clinics.
