As a part of our commitment to giving back to rescue groups, we select two organizations every month to be the recipient of our Buy One Give One (BOGO) program. Our BOGO program is based on online sales from two of our leash and collar collections (I Am A Rescue or Support The Underdog). For every collar/leash purchased from these collections, one is donated to a rescue group.
We are excited to announce that Rescued Pets Are Wonderful of Blaine, MN is our BOGO recipient from December 16-31. RPAW is a non-profit, no-kill, foster-based animal rescue organization serving the Twin Cities metro area. We asked RPAW’s Liz Gigler a few questions about RPAW to get our supporters familiar with the impact that RPAW is making on the animals and people in their community.
Liz: All of our dogs come from local impound facilities in the state of MN. We do not take out of state animals as we feel there are so many local animals in need. We have usually 40 to 50 dogs in our program at any given time and about 30 to 40 cats.
PBC: What are some of the things RPAW is known for?
Liz: RPAW is known for 2 things, that we pull only local animals and that we take on the hardest medical and behavioral cases.
PBC: Describe some of the more challenging moments in rescuing RPAW dogs and how you/the other volunteers got through it.
Liz: Since we take in the most challenging medical and behavioral cases we are always on our toes. From the 8# tumor we removed from a dogs face this summer, to the countless knees we have repaired to the numerous amputations and eye removals, it all makes the lives of the animals better in the long run. When all other groups shy away or even stay away from those animals because of cost or time commitment, we thrive on helping those.
PBC: What is the most rewarding part about fostering? What would you say to others who are considering fostering for a group like RPAW?
Liz: The most rewarding thing is that you can take a scared, helpless dog out of impound that may have been scheduled to die that day and make their whole world new by giving them the time and love that no one else would have.
