BOGO Spotlight: Companion Pet Rescue & Transport (CPR)
As a part of our commitment to giving back to rescue groups, we select two organizations every month to be the recipient of our Buy One Give One (BOGO) program. Our BOGO program is based on online sales from our leash and collar collections. For every collar/leash purchased, one is donated to a rescue group.
We have been following this group for quite some time now and couldn’t be more thrilled to have Companion Pet Rescue & Transport as our BOGO recipient from July 16th – 31st. Companion Pet Rescue & Transport (CPR) was founded in 2004 and rescues over 2,500 dogs per year thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers! They have an adoption center in Southbury CT, as well as weekly events or you can pick up directly from their amazing transport! Almost all of their pups start in TN. When they are ready to be adopted they send them directly to their adopters in New England or, if not adopted, to their adoption center in Southbury, CT.
We’ve had challenges with recruiting foster homes at times – most groups do. But we are always getting creative with marketing to show how fun and rewarding fostering can be, and we provide orientations and open houses to answer questions and help people learn about fostering before they jump in. The more foster homes we have the more dogs we can save and the smoother the transition into a forever home will be for that dog and their family!
Companion Pet Rescue’s name was chosen very deliberately — we focus our efforts on friendly, social, loving companion pets. We rarely assist in placing dogs with special needs or aggression — we simply are not equipped to rescue these dogs, as our dogs are heavily socialized with others (a doggy daycare environment), or in foster homes, almost all of which have children and other pets.
We are committed to promoting the importance of spaying and neutering. We are known for our spay/neuter outreach program that allows us to assist families who need this service but can’t afford it in TN
The most rewarding part about fostering is watching the foster pup fall in love with their new parents and vice versa. As a foster parent you play the important role of “matchmaker”. You are the pups voice, so playing an active role in helping find the forever home is important. If you are considering fostering but are thinking to yourself “I don’t think I could do it, saying goodbye would be too hard and I’d keep them all”, give it a try. The happy endings keep you going and remind you of why you foster. It gets easier with time, and unfortunately there is always another dog out there looking for rescue and care.
Let us know anything else you’d like to share with us.
We would encourage you to watch this video filmed by a previous adopter. It gives you a great insight into what it is like to adopt a pup directly off transport.
